Police responded to the scene of the fatal wreck in the area of 1717 White Settlement Road.

FORT WORTH, TX - Police in Fort Worth said two people died after their vehicle was involved in a crash late Sunday night.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the two were in a Camaro that was fleeing the scene of an illegal street racing event in the area of West 7th Street and White Settlement Road. Police said officers responded at about 11 p.m. to break up the event where cars had been blocking the intersection, and briefly activated their overhead emergency lights.

The driver of the Camaro turned off the car's lights and sped off on White Settlement Road but officers were not giving chase, according to police.  Investigators believe the Camaro driver eventually lost control of the car, which went down an embankment and overturned.

The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.   Two other passengers were reportedly seriously injured.
