Nov 22, 2022

One woman was killed and one injured after being hit by a vehicle at East Park Row Drive and Susan Drive Sunday night.

ARLINGTON, TX - Police said one woman was killed and one was injured when they were struck by a vehicle in Arlington Sunday night.

NBC DFW reports the two pedestrians were walking in the area of East Park Row Drive and Susan Drive when they were hit sometime before 10:17 p.m.  Witnesses reported seeing an SUV run a red light on East Park Row Drive and strike the women, who were walking in a designated crosswalk with the walk signal illuminated.

One victim, a 67-year-old woman, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  The other woman, age 49, was also hospitalized but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The SUV driver kept going after the collision but police officers found a license plate at the scene and were able to trace the vehicle to a nearby home.  Following further investigation, they determined that the man inside the home, 22-year-old Jose Ivan Martinez, had been the driver.

After talking with Martinez and performing sobriety tests on him, the officers arrested him.  Speed and alcohol were believed to have been contributing factors in the accident, according to police.
