GRAND PRAIRIE, TX - The Grand Prairie Police Department said one of its police officers was killed in a crash during a pursuit on Monday night.

According to NBC DFW, the incident began when the officer tried to stop a driver with a fake paper license plate in the area of SW 3rd Street and Pioneer Parkway at about 10:45 p.m.

The driver fled the attempted stop and the officer took off in pursuit, but lost control of his police vehicle and crashed into a light pole.  The officer was pronounced dead after being transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

The 32-year-old victim had been with the Grand Prairie Police Department since January 2022, after spending the previous five years as a police officer in Los Angeles.  The crash remains under investigation.
